CAS Watercolour January Happy Birthday!

It is exciting to start the New Year off with CAS Watercolour..Happy Birthday Challenge!
Be sure and check out the beautiful watercoloured Birthday cards by our
very talented Design Team and awesome Guest Designer, Birgit (Rapport fran ett skrivbord).

I need several January Birthday cards.  Thanks Loll for the perfect challenge!

I had fun practicing my No-Line Watercolouring using PB "The Sweetest Sound".

I stamped the image in my MISTI using Distress Ink Tea Dye, which showed me the details.
I used Arches Hot Press watercolor paper.
I left my card front in MISTI to keep image secure when watercoloring.

I used my Zigs to watercolor all the images. except the birds. Used my aqua pens to help blend, lighten and highlight the Zig watercolors.
I colored the birds with Prismacolor Pencils.

I had more control over the different colors on the birds by using the pencils.
I used Gamsol to blend the colors with paper stump.

After (an hour) happy with the results I die cut the image with MB Stitched Rectangle Die.
Popped up with fun foam and added SU sentiment.
Then mounted on SU Very Vanilla CS. So relaxing to watercolor.

I hope you get to join us at CAS Watercolour.  You have until the 24th to play along.

Wishing you all a Happy and Healthy New Year !  Hugs...

    1. Thanks Loll. It was my best attempt at coloring these birds. In the past, I tried watercoloring them. I have seen more stampers using pencils for detail coloring and gave it a try. I was very pleased with the results. Dina Kowal http://www.dinakowalcreative.com/p/tutorial-index.html is my favorite artist. Hugs..

  3. You did a beautiful job on this Nancy! I have that stamp and after several failures I keep moving it to the bottom of my stamps! Yours is just gorgeous! Great idea to use pencils on the birds! Mine kept looking like a blob! You inspired me to try again though!

  5. Nancy, we have to try this in May, I think I need a personal lesson. I have the stamp but never inked it up. I also love the idea of mixing up the pencil and watercolours.

  7. Love the way you used both Zigs and Prismacolor Pencils - makes an interesting contrast in media. Both birds and branches are beautifully coloured. I really like your layout - I'm always too stuck on getting the focal panel in the centre of the card base!

  8. This is simply beautiful, Nancy! It just looks like a Japanese paining! I LOve how you colored the birds - the colors and the pencil strokes make the feathers look so real. I feel like wring "happy birthday" in Japanese with black brush pen next to the birds and frame it! :-) Hugs.. Hideko
