Less is More Tactile Challenge

I have been wanting to play with vellum after seeing my girl friend Bonnie Klass of Stamping with Klass using vellum beautifully on many of her gorgeous cards.  The new Less is More weeks 286 & 287 Challenge: Recipe: Use Something Tactile was perfect to give me an idea for vellum.  I think you definitely want to "touch" this Christmas card :-)  The challenge runs thru August 5th.

I stamped my tree from SU Evergreen onto the back of the vellum with Mossy Meadow.  I turned the vellum over and Heat Embossed with SU gold embossing powder the lined tree stamp from the same set.  The vellum from my stash already had the flakes of gold.

I die cut the vellum and card front with my CUTplorations "Crazy Double Running Stitch Rectangle Nesting Dies".  Then attached my vellum piece with my SU Fine Tip Glue Pen,  which gave the bit of puckered dimensional look...a happy not planned effect!

I finished my card by Heat EB with gold EB powder the sentiment from SU Christmas Greetings (ret).

July CASEplorations Stenciled Mixed Media

When I saw Elina Stromberg's Gorgeous card for STAMPlorations July 2016 CASEploration Challenge I knew I had to join in the fun!  I LOVE Fall colors and stenciling.  Also we have plenty of family and friends with Fall birthdays :-)  I decided to leave off my sentiment for now.  I may just add a sentiment inside.  Just could not add anymore to my Card front...what do you think?

Here is Elina's Beauty...

I started with a piece of Strathmore Mixed Media paper.  I saturated the card front with Distress inks using blending tools.  I wanted to get the lighter shading in the middle like Elins's card so I added my yellow T.H. Distress Crayon and rubbed in with my finger.  Next I used Tim Holtz's Faded Dots stencil and sprayed with Glimmer Mist, which gave a ghosting effect.  Next I stenciled with TCW Time Travel Stencil sponging with Distress Inks.

I was so happy with the pretty glowing effect.  I sprayed again with more Glimmer Mist...It really, really shines IRL :-)  Sponged the edges with Distress Inks and popped up the sponged and die cut leaves from my stash.  Added a linen thread bow....and Done!  Loved the results.

Thank you again Elina for your awesome Inspiring card!

CAS(E) this Sketch CTS182

I am Loving all the new SU 2016-18 In Colors and the"Swirly Bird Stamp Set" and coordinating "Swirly Scribbles Thinlits".   I have been using all these new products for my July SU Hostess Club party on the 26th.  I will be sharing after our party 2 cards we will be making.  I have been busy die cutting 8 of the 9 dies for a total of 16 kits :-)  My cutting plates are no longer new looking !

After I finished the kits I wanted to make a few more cards for sample ideas for my girls.  I die cut a baggy full of the different dies in different In Colors.  I discovered when making my kits that you want to SAVE all the punch out pieces to use as inlays...just like a puzzle..so fun!

I die cut a 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" card front out of W. White CS using my new CUTplorations "Crazy Double Running Stitch Rectangle" Thin metal dies.  Next I stamped the splats with Melon Mambo for the background.  I attached all my "puzzle" pieces to the CS using my SU Fine Tip Glue Pen.  I used Peekaboo Peach, Flirty Flamingo and Melon Mambo pieces.  Stamped hello from SU "A Dozen Thoughts" retired.

I did add a 2nd layer of the white die for more dimension and because I thought the Peekaboo Peach in the middle was not bright enough I just added a Melon Mambo piece,  which I liked much better.

My card is for the CAS(E) this Sketch CTS182 Challenge.

I'm also joining in the fun at Snippets Playground week 239,  since I used Snippets of Die Cuts :-) Lots of fun always at Pixie's Crafty Workshop!

Card Recipe

STAMPlorations New CUTplorations Dies

I just received my new CUTplorations Thinlits Dies: Birthday Word Die  and  Crazy Double Running Stitch Rectangle Nesting Dies just released by STAMPlorations :-)  I LOVE the font and size of the Birthday.  I stamped the Happy from my SU Number of  Years set.  The Stitched Dies are 3 high quality thinlits sizes.  I used the 2 largest for my A2 card.  The 3rd Die is just a little bigger than an ATC card.  All great sizes.  Shery has many more new Dies and more new Stamp Sets too in her STAMPlorations Store.

Can you tell I am excited about my new Dies :-)  They were the perfect way to finish my Adirondack Alcohol Inks and ARTplorations Stenciled Background.  I made the background for our DS Levi's Birthday Card.  Levi Custom Mills Lumber in La Pine, Oregon...near Bend,  so I know he will love his card!

I have really enjoyed creating Alcohol Ink and Stenciled Backgrounds.  So easy...I placed my "Weathered Wood" Stencil over Yupo Paper and taped down with masking tape.

Then I traced the stencil using a loose flowing motion with the tip of my alcohol ink.  I used 2 colors: Teakwood and Pesto.  Removed Stencil.  When dry I burnished with a paper towel.  Replaced Stencil and traced with a black Permanent Ink art pen.

I Die Cut my Birthday Die using SU W. White Thick CS and stamped the Hello.  I used my SU  Thin Tip Glue Pen to attach both sentiments.  Attached Whisper White Thick Stitched Die Cut Layer to the Whisper White Thick A2 Card Base and popped up main image with dimensionals.  Loved the results.

My card is for the Stamplorations Never Ending Anything Goes Challenge

CASology #206 ART

This is my CAS ART card for CASology: Week 206 ART Challenge.  So many Gorgeous CAS ART cards by the talented Design Team.  I was inspired to use my STAMPlorations "ART IS" Stamp Set that has 6 pieces relating to ART!  I also used my ARTplorations "Shower of Flutters" Stencil Mask for my main image and my new CUTplorations "Crazy Double Running Stitch Rectangle Die" for the border.

I made some shimmer spray using water and Frost White Shimmer Paint in a mini mister and sprayed the entire card front.  It really Shimmers IRL.  I did take a Close Up to try to capture the Shimmer.

I used a blending tool to sponge SU Flirty Flamingo and Peekaboo Peach onto my stencil mask then spritzed with water and placed on my Strathmore 140# Mixed Media paper using a paper towel to press down on the back of the inked stencil for good ink coverage.  I lifted off the stencil and used a wet paint brush to move the ink around each butterfly.  I loved how the 2 colors blended and the light and dark effect on each butterfly.

I then Die cut my border, stamped my sentiment with SU Archival Basic Gray ink using my MISTI.  Added a bit of WASHI tape for balance and attached to my SU Whisper White Thick  tent fold Card Base....and Voila' quick and easy CAS ART card done.

My card is for several challenges....

CAS Mix Up July Reminder Card...Markers!

Here is my July CAS Mix Up Reminder Card using Stamping + Marker Layering + my choice Die Cuts.

Because  the many flowers and leaves are quite small I spent probably an hour of relaxing coloring with my new SU 2016 In Color markers.  I used Karen Barber's SCS Marker Layering Tutorial for my marker technique.  I stamped my image using SU Archival Basic Gray ink.  I colored the leaves twice with Emerald Envy then the flowers twice with Peekaboo Peach, Flirty Flamingo and Sweet Sugarplum.  I added my Dazzling Details to the centers of each flower, let dry before adding a 2nd layer of DD.  I thought it was just the right amount of bling.

I Die Cut my main image and the frame with my SU Square Collection.  I colored the frame with my Dapper Denim marker so I could get subtle streaks.  I then sanded the frame a bit and inlayed my main image.

When looking for the right sentiment I came across the SU  Die Cut Paper Doily,  which worked well for softening all the square lines.  Added the sentiment and......done!  I really liked the results of my 5" x 5" card. It was fun being able to use all 5 of the new In Colors.   Hope you like it too.

You still have until July 24th to join the fun at our CAS Mix UP July Challenge.  Happy Stamping!

STAMPlorations July CAS Challenge Guest Designer

I am so excited about being chosen by Shery as one of the Guest Designer for STAMPlorations July CAS Challenge. The CAS Challenge is Shery's newest Challenge and one of my favorites :-)The CAS Challenge is always "Anything Goes" with a Color Twist and this month is the Color Orange!

Thank you again Shery for the opportunity to join your very talented Design Team as your Guest Designer.  It is a real honor.  Look how cool your Watermark looks with my card too !

Now for the Deets...I have been playing with the Paper Marbling Technique using my Adirondack Alcohol Inks.  I now have a stack of card fronts using different papers and colors.  I am sure you will see more cards in the future from me using this cool technique :-) Our very talented friend Karen Dunbrook aka k dunbrook on SCS last week hosted the TLC592 Challenge on SCS using the Paper Marbling Technique.

Be sure and check out the link to Karen's challenge for more Deets and Karen's Blog: Snippets.  The technique is also called by some "Floating Alcohol Ink Technique".  There are You Tube videos out there too.

Moving on....My background was one of my samples using 5 drops of Adirondack Sunset Orange into a shallow square bowl of water and quickly placing my piece of Yupo paper into water holding my paper with a forcep tool. Always remember...alcohol ink stains!  I then lifted my paper and quickly placed on a paper towel to dry.  I learned to change water and ink everytime for better results and that every type of paper and even alcohol inks give different results.  I tried rice paper, mixed media paper and thick white cardstock.  The thick white CS my least favorite.  Yupo my favorite.  But I liked the rice paper and mixed media almost equally as well.

I used Deepti's...one of STAMPlorations talented designers... stamp set "Blooming Buds" for my stamped flower and sentiment.  I love this set and ALL the sentiments.  It is so versatile for many occasions.  I stamped with Archival Jet Black using my MISTI and colored with my Zig Markers.  I blotted with a paper towel to dry the watercolor markers. I then attached the Yupo paper main image onto Whisper White Thick CS to give it more strength.  Then popped up with foam tape onto the SU Die Cut Square and attached that to SU Calypso Coral CS 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" card base.

Enjoy and hope you get to join the STAMPlorations CAS July Challenge too :-)

I am joining 2 more Challenges: STAMPlorations Never Ending Anything Goes Challenge

CAS Mix Up July Challenge

It is time already for the new CAS Mix Up July Challenge: Stamping + Markers + Your Choice.  My Choice: Masking, One Layer Card, and Stenciling.

A dear family friend passed away recently at the age of 94 after having a very full life raising 8 children and doting on his many grand and great grandchildren.  Jack's favorite place besides being with his kids was the quiet beauty of our gorgeous Southern Oregon Coast.  I wanted a soft peaceful ocean scene that would remind his family of their dad.

I started by masking my card to create a frame using 3M post-it-note Tape. Then used my palette knife to spread on Gesso, let dry and added a 2nd layer for more texture. Again let dry.  Then I sponged several colors of Distress Inks to create the beach scene and stenciled the birds.

Then I used my MISTI and positioned my beach grass stamp on my card front, closed my MISTI to attach stamp. Opened MISTI and colored the stamp with my SU markers. Closed MISTI and colored again and stamped again for better coverage.  I then moved the stamp down a bit on my MISTI, recolored and stamped again twice.

I stamped the "With Love" in Memento London Fog for a softer look than black. Because of the Gesso the colors faded where the grass image overlapped onto the beach scene.  I ended up brushing on Distress Inks using my aqua painter,  which covered the grass much better.  I also went around the border of the scene with my SU Creamy Caramel marker to give the scene a little more definition.

I am real happy with my 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" card...hope you like it too.

We would Love to have you join us at the CAS Mix UP July Challenge with your creative cards.

Please remember to make your cards a Clean and Simple Mixed Media creation.  Have a great summer....Hugs...
