CAS Mixed Media November Reminder Card

I used MISTI Stamping + Masking + my choice of watercolor wash and splatters for the CAS Mixed Media November Reminder Challenge.

All the DT, Guest Designer and Gallery this month have absolutely Stunning Samples of masked techniques for many occasions for your Inspiration!  You still have until November 24th to play along.

I used SU Shimmery White Cardstock for my main image.  I love the subtle shimmer and it works well for watercoloring if you do not add too much water.

I placed my 4" x 5 1/4" piece of CS in my MISTI then Masked the edges at 1/2" all around using my 3M Masking Tape,  which is 2" wide, never tears paper and can be reused many times :-)

Then I placed my PB "The Unfolded" stamp and closed my MISTI.   I opened my MISTI and inked the stamp with Tim Holtz Festive Berries Distress Ink ink pad and closed MISTI.   I stamped one more time for darker coverage and then let my image air dry completely.

I scribbled Memento London Fog ink onto my craft mat and spritzed with water to get a soft diluted grey for my background watercolor wash using a #4 paint brush.  Let dry.  Covered flower image with a mask and splattered the background with diluted black acrylic ink.  Let dry.

Removed tape...and loved the results. I even liked how some of the wash went under the mask a bit.   I added more shimmer to the flowers with Wink of Stella and stamped and popped up my sentiment.

Enjoy and Happy Masking Stamping my friends.  Hugs...

Loll's 12 Tags of Christmas 2016..Season's Greetings

Today is Loll's Day One of her "Twelve Tags of Christmas with Loll and Friends" Event! This is Loll's 3rd Annual Event and is such a fun and inspiring way to get your Christmas Tags made up a head of the Christmas Rush.

Lots of layers on this tag...I started with a Tim Holtz  3" x 6 1/4" Manila tag.  Painting on 2 thick coats of Gesso, drying between coats.  Then using a ruler and pencil to draw a 1 1/2" x 3" rectangle.   Next I stamped my fir tree with Versamark and Heat Embossed with Vintage Verdigris EB powder.

I used Wet on Wet watercoloring with a #8 paint brush to add several layers of Distress Inks: Tea Dye, Walnut Stain and Black Soot.  When dry I used the same technique to add Distress Inks to my rectangle.

Next I masked my rectangle and stamped the snowflakes, sponged the edges of tag with Black Soot, added the Chevron ribbon, linen thread, wood snowflake and sentiments.

How long did this take...oh a couple of days as layers dried and I needed time to think about the next step.  I had plenty of other things to do between the steps,  so I did not mind!

The very last step....hurray!  Snow flake splatters with diluted white acrylic paint using a paint brush.

Jill Foster's One Layer Stamping and Painting Video for Penny Black was very helpful for my watercoloring technique.

Enjoy and hope you get to play along with Loll and Friends Tag Event.  You have until November 25th to join the fun with your tags.  Hugs.....

CAS Mix Up November Challenge: Masking

Already time for the CAS Mix Up November Challenge: Masking.  We also have 2 new Design Team Members on CAS Mix Up :-)  Loll and Bonnie had the difficult job of choosing only 2 new members from the list of talented stampers from the Design Team Call last month.

Our new DT members are the very talented Julia from Create with Julia and Joanna from Jo-Jo's Spot.  Be sure and go to the CAS Mix Up November Challenge to see their gorgeous masking cards and visit their blogs to leave them some love :-)  We also have Linda S. from Lin's Craft Corner as our Guest Designer for November.  Linda also has a beautiful masked card.

I used Stamping + Masking + my choice of Stenciling with Brushos and Die Cut Leaves

I just received a Dina Wakely Ranger Stencil: "Leafy" from Loll and just had to use it... right now!  I tried a new (to me) masking technique using  the smallest CUTplorations "Crazy Double Running Stitch Rectangle Nesting Die".  I cut a 4" x 5 1/4" layer from my Arches 140# Cold Press watercolor paper.

I placed my stencil on my paper, then the die,  using 3M masking tape to mask my 2 1/4" x 3 1/2" stencil image.  I then sprinkled orange, yellow and purple Brushos Powder over the stencil and spritzed with plenty of water.  I carefully removed the masking tape, die and stencil all in one piece.

I LOVED the clean edges I got for my stenciled image.  I let the piece air dry.  I then added my die cut leaves using pop dots.  I stamped my sentiment 3 times using my MISTI to get good coverage.

I added the sequins and ribbon for just a little bit of embellishment.  I am very pleased with the results and will use this masking technique again.

You have until November 24th to join the fun at CAS Mix Up.  Enjoy and Happy Masking..

Karen's Splitcoaststamper's TLC Challenge: Get to the Point!

When I saw that my friend Karen aka k dunbrook of Splitcoaststamper.com and "Snippets" was hosting this weeks TLC610 Technique Challenge..Get to the Point...I thought the technique would be perfect for a card I have been working on using my new Penny Black Stamp.."the sweetest sound" and matching "the sweetest sound II" die cut,  which I ordered from SSS using my birthday gift certificate from Loll :-)  Thank you again my friend.

I did make my own Get to the Point version.  I never can follow directions exactly..lol!  I had already used the Watercoloring Stamping technique like on THIS card using my MISTI and SU markers.  I then die cut my birds and branch and sponged with SU inks.  I masked the images and splattered the background with diluted Soft Suede using a paint brush.  Then stamped my sentiment using my MISTI and attached the die cut birds and branch.

Still not totally happy...that is when I saw Karen's challenge.   I touched the tip of my stylus into Soft Suede ink and started adding dots.  Instead of of lots of dots I stopped when I liked the effect.  It was my 1st time to try the stylus dots technique.  It worked great.  I think it was Jennifer Mcguire that I have seen using a stylus for dots.

Here is my card that I am now very happy with thanks to  Karen, Loll and Jennifer :-)

My card is for the Splitcoaststampers.com TLC610 Get to the Point Challenge.

Also CAS on Sunday: Challenge #95 Flowers

And..Pixie's Snippet's Playground:  my birds are from a snippet of WC paper.

CAS Mix Up July Challenge

It is time already for the new CAS Mix Up July Challenge: Stamping + Markers + Your Choice.  My Choice: Masking, One Layer Card, and Stenciling.

A dear family friend passed away recently at the age of 94 after having a very full life raising 8 children and doting on his many grand and great grandchildren.  Jack's favorite place besides being with his kids was the quiet beauty of our gorgeous Southern Oregon Coast.  I wanted a soft peaceful ocean scene that would remind his family of their dad.

I started by masking my card to create a frame using 3M post-it-note Tape. Then used my palette knife to spread on Gesso, let dry and added a 2nd layer for more texture. Again let dry.  Then I sponged several colors of Distress Inks to create the beach scene and stenciled the birds.

Then I used my MISTI and positioned my beach grass stamp on my card front, closed my MISTI to attach stamp. Opened MISTI and colored the stamp with my SU markers. Closed MISTI and colored again and stamped again for better coverage.  I then moved the stamp down a bit on my MISTI, recolored and stamped again twice.

I stamped the "With Love" in Memento London Fog for a softer look than black. Because of the Gesso the colors faded where the grass image overlapped onto the beach scene.  I ended up brushing on Distress Inks using my aqua painter,  which covered the grass much better.  I also went around the border of the scene with my SU Creamy Caramel marker to give the scene a little more definition.

I am real happy with my 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" card...hope you like it too.

We would Love to have you join us at the CAS Mix UP July Challenge with your creative cards.

Please remember to make your cards a Clean and Simple Mixed Media creation.  Have a great summer....Hugs...
