CAS Mix Up May Splattering

Splattering has to be one of my all time favorite techniques for adding interest and a bit of dimension to a Clean and Simple design card.   I was thrilled to see our CAS Mix Up May Splattering Challenge!

I used Stamping + Splattering with acrylic paint + Color Burst Watercolouring and Die Cuts

I used the Rubbernecker "Tulips in Vase" stamp,  which is a challenge!  I placed my 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" piece of Arches Hot Press 140# in my MISTI securing with Creative Corners and then placed my stamp.  I painted the vase and leaves with water using a #4 paint brush then sprinkled with Pthalo Green Color Burst powder and stamped my image.  I opened my MISTI and spritzed more water on my stamp and stamped again and helped move the reconstituted powder around with my wet paint brush.  I then did the same procedure again adding water and Sepia Color Burst to my stamp to ground my stamped image.  Moving the wet ink around with my wet paint brush.  Next I stamped the flowers using Alizarin Crimson Color Burst and the same watercolouring procedure.  I used reconstituted Sepia on my craft mat to add more detail to the flowers for dimension.

It is important to let your watercoloured layers dry before adding the next Color Burst color.  I used CUTplorations Crazy Double Running Stitch Rectangle Die to frame my card front.  Next die cut my image with my CUTplorations ATC Tag Builder Die, which gave a nice beveled edge.  I purposely partially die cut one flower to give an over the edge look.   Almost forgot my sentiment.  My MISTI and Creative Corners came to my rescue. I just placed my card front in my MISTI and secured with CC's. Then stamped my 2 STAMPlorations "Birds of Paradise" sentiments with Archival black ink.  Worked great!

Next I splattered my card front after placing my main image into the die cut area of my card front and masked with 3M masking tape.  I used green diluted acrylic paint and a #8 paint brush to make my splatters.  I only made a few splatters to just give a bit of mixed media interest,  but not distract from my watercoloured main image.  Then I popped up my main image with 3M tape for a popped up inlaid design.  I attached my card front to my SU Whisper White Thick card base.  I was very pleased with my CAS Mixed Media card.  Happy May Day my friends!

CWCC March 2017 Spring Reminder

Spring is definitely beginning in the beautiful Pacific North West!  Here is my CAS March Watercolour "Spring" Reminder Card.  There are so many more Gorgeous Spring Reminder cards by the DT and our GD, Heather.

I had to try Heather T's (bits & pieces) water stamping technique with Brushos.  Her blog link will take you to the Blush Rose Card that inspired me to try her technique.  I used my Penny Black Brush Stroke stamp, "The Unfolding" for my image and used my MISTI for stamping.

I placed a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" piece of Arches Hot Press watercolour paper in my MISTI. Positioned the stamp and then brushed water onto my entire stamp and sprinkled lightly with Brushos using Ultramarine and Brilliant Red on flowers and black on stems.  I then stamped using my MISTI.  I spread the inks around using a paint brush and used a paper towel to dab areas with too much water.

Next I reconstituted some Color Burst Sepia and added to stems and center of flower with a paint brush to get more brown tones.  After my piece was completely dry I die cut my image with my CUTplorations Crazy Double Running Stitch Rectangle Die and using my MISTI stamped my Penny Black "Heartfelt Thanks" sentiment with Archival black ink 4 times to get good coverage.

Next I used some of my leftover sepia to splatter my image lightly using a paint brush.

When completely dry I popped up my image using 3M foam tape onto my SU Very Vanilla card base.
I am really happy with my 1st try with this water stamping technique even if I changed my steps a bit from Heather's beautiful Rose card.  TFS Heather and always inspiring all of us :-)

Karen's Splitcoaststamper's TLC Challenge: Get to the Point!

When I saw that my friend Karen aka k dunbrook of Splitcoaststamper.com and "Snippets" was hosting this weeks TLC610 Technique Challenge..Get to the Point...I thought the technique would be perfect for a card I have been working on using my new Penny Black Stamp.."the sweetest sound" and matching "the sweetest sound II" die cut,  which I ordered from SSS using my birthday gift certificate from Loll :-)  Thank you again my friend.

I did make my own Get to the Point version.  I never can follow directions exactly..lol!  I had already used the Watercoloring Stamping technique like on THIS card using my MISTI and SU markers.  I then die cut my birds and branch and sponged with SU inks.  I masked the images and splattered the background with diluted Soft Suede using a paint brush.  Then stamped my sentiment using my MISTI and attached the die cut birds and branch.

Still not totally happy...that is when I saw Karen's challenge.   I touched the tip of my stylus into Soft Suede ink and started adding dots.  Instead of of lots of dots I stopped when I liked the effect.  It was my 1st time to try the stylus dots technique.  It worked great.  I think it was Jennifer Mcguire that I have seen using a stylus for dots.

Stamps: PB the Sweetest Sound, SU Holly Jolly Greetings

Paper: SU Whisper White thick and Pacific Point CS.  Fluid 100 Hot Press WC paper

Inks:  SU markers: Soft Suede, Early Espresso, Old Olive, Poppy Parade (ret).  SU Ink pads,  Soft Suede, Early Espresso, Pacific Point.

Accessories: Big Shot, PB The Sweetest Sound II die cut, MISTI, water spritzer, sponge dauber, Fine tip glue pen, stylus, paint brush, dimensionals

Techniques: CAS, Watercolor stamping with MISTI, die cut, sponging, paint brush splatters, stylus dots, masking

Penny Black Watercolored "Bejeweled"

This is my first card using my new Penny Black "Bejeweled" stamp.  I placed my stamp in my MISTI and then colored the stamp with my Zig Markers, spritzed with water lightly, closed my MISTI to stamp exactly where I wanted onto my Arches 140# Cold Press Paper.  I then took my aqua painter and lightly spread the watercolors on the image.  I added a few darker colors with Zig markers for more shading.  I loved the results.  I added pink splatters and then sponged the edges and around the flower image with distress inks.  A very easy one layer card.  I stamped my image 4 times with my MISTI to get great coverage.  Always a challenge on cold press paper.
