Heather Telford Winter Wonder Class

I signed up for Heather Telford's Winter Wonder on-line class and finished 2 cards using her Midnight Skies technique from her first lesson.  I LOVED how they turned out and I am sharing my 1st card with CAS Mix Up January Splatters Challenge.

My Midnight Sky (Northern Lights) Christmas Card
using silhouette stamped image, snow splatters, die cut and watercolors.

I was Thrilled with my Midnight Sky using Heather's 1st technique from her 1st lesson. I have never been successful at making night skies until I followed Heather's instructions.  She is an amazing teacher.  I highly recommend Heather's class,  which is still available.

I used Arches Hot Press 100% Cotton Watercolor Paper and Distress Inks: Peacock Feathers, Chipped Sapphire and Black Soot.

Stamped the Penny Black "Dressed in Snow" trees using Archival Jet Black ink and MISTI.  Then splattered snow with acrylic White Posca Pen.

I trimmed my finished image to 3 3/4" square and added CUTplorations Stitched Snow Hills Die for the snow bank.  Stamped Penny Black "Smile all season" sentiment and snowflakes.  Attached snowbank to main image.

I punched out a 1/4" circle for the moon and attached after my Midnight Sky was finished so I would know exactly where I wanted to place my moon.

Popped up Midnight Sky using craft foam and attached to 5 1/2" square SU Whisper White 100# card base and Done!
I LOVED the results.

There was a learning curve...I made 3 backgrounds that I tossed because I was not following Heather's instructions closely enough.  But after my practice pieces my final Midnight skies turned out beautifully:-)

*****************

My 2nd card is not really CAS so I am not sharing on the challenges,  but I am sharing with my Blog friends:-)

I used the same Midnight Sky technique from Heather's online class,  but used different brighter Distress Inks: Chipped Sapphire,  Seedless Preserves, Antique Linen, Scattered Straw and Black Soot.

Used MISTI to stamp the Penny Black "Winter Moment" silhouette image using Archival Jet Black Ink.  Then splattered stars with White Posca pen acrylic paint.

Added STAMPlorations Clear Sticker "Shine Bright" sentiment and 1/4" punched circle for the moon.  Attached to SU Whisper White 100# card base and Done!

I was just as pleased with this Midnight Sky as my 1st card:-)
Heather adds very detailed steps and many card samples for all three of her lessons.
You will see a few more cards in the future using her techniques.
Thank you Heather for sharing your watercolor creativity!

Love and Hugs,

  16. Both cards are absolutely gorgeous, Nancy! LOVE your aurora-like night skies! Unexpected colors for night sky (Antique Linen and Scattered Straw) worked wonderfully. The white moon and the perfect splatters pop against the sky, and beautifully contrast with the black tree silhouettes. Looking forward to seeing many more cards with Heather's technique. Hugs.. 1. I saw that our very talented Karen Dunbrook (Snippets) using either Posca Black or White Acrylic Pens for her splatters. I have always admired her splatters. She uses a metal ruler to tap the end of her pen to get the splatters. I used my bone folder, which works great. I practiced a little bit on scratch paper when I 1st used my pens and after that no problem. You can get a set of the 2 pens or buy separately. I got mine from Amazon. Hugs...Nancy
