I am thrilled that Loll and Bonnie have started their new
CAS Christmas Card Challenge. You have until the 24th to play.
Be sure and check out the gorgeous cards from the Design Team and Guest Designer.
I had so much fun making faux enamel ornaments!
Aren't they amazing? I ended up making 9 more ornament cards using the same design as above!
I used an old electric grill with a small heat resistant craft sheet (cut from larger sheet) laid onto low medium heated grill.
My twin sister, Margie took my photo while I was making ornaments:-)
Eat Sleep Create Repeat!
I took photo of Margie die cutting!
I used this YouTube Video for my faux enamel technique.
I die cut SU Coaster Board (Ret.), which is a little lighter than chip board
using my SU "Holiday Ornaments" Dies.
Then I layed one ornament on the heated craft mat and used a small spoon
to add a generous amount of clear embossing powder.
Let melt, then added "old" mica powders in gold, blue and red.
Lifted off hot ornament with metal palette knife and placed on craft mat to cool.
I used the same technique on all my ornaments varying the colors of mica and glitter.
The more you play with the technique the more ideas you get.
I had overflow melted pieces that I saved and added to some ornaments while embossing powder was still hot and then melted and stirred the melted powder with a metal skewer for little designs.
Be sure and die cut extra shapes. You can't make just one...guaranteed!
My CAS card design was very easy.
I used MISTI to stamp my SU "Ornamental Pine" (ret) pine branch
with SU Mossy Meadows and Garden Green stamp pads and Soft Suede marker.
Next I stamped sentiment from SU "Calm Christmas" (ret) in Versamark
and heat embossed with SU Gold EB powder.
Added gold cord to ornament and attached to card with Tombow glue
and popped up ornament with dimensionals.
Attached main image to SU Gold Foil
and attached to SU Thick Whisper White card base and Done!
I was very pleased with the results:-)
Enjoy and Happy Christmas Card creating! Hugs...

Looks like you had lots of fun playing with the faux enamel technique, Nancy!! Your ornaments turned out all so beautiful. I can just imagine the gorgeous array of cards you made from them. And the one you posted is amazing. Lots of beautiful colours on that ornament ... and so pretty hanging from the pine branch. Thanks for sharing with us at CAS Christmas! xx
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful color and texture your faux enamel ornament adds to your lovely card Nancy - and how wonderful you now have so many beautiful cards made!
ReplyDeleteNancy, these are JUST gorgeous! Wish I had an electric griddle but may try this on the stove. Could be interesting. After seeing yours- it's a though. Thanks too, for the fun photos of you and your sister. Love the other ornaments you made too. Now I'll have to beef up my embossing powder colors! I do love the copper color on your card.
ReplyDeleteI would not recommend you try on the stove. Some of the girls went to 2nd hand stores and bought used grills. You need room to set up your supplies and the powder can get away from you. You would not want it to melt on your stove. Thank you for your thoughtful comment, my friend. Hugs
DeleteNancy, great photos of you and our sister. It must be so much fun still playing together :)
ReplyDeleteYour ornaments are all such beautiful colours, I bet the cards are all unique even though you made multiples.
It looks like such fun. It also sounds a bit messy, so it was probably good to get so many made at once. Love they way they turned out.
ReplyDeleteNot only is it fun, but you are right about the mess, although cleans up easily and you get lots of samples for future cards:-) Hugs
DeleteYour ornaments are all so pretty, Nancy! And you're right about it being addictive! Such pretty colors and patterns! What a great picture of you and of Margie too! A great way to remember fun times! Thanks for sharing with us at CAS Christmas!
ReplyDeleteWhat a shiny and pretty ornament hanging from the pine branch, Nancy! Your faux enamel ornaments are all gorgeous, but the colors and the texture of the one on the card are amazing! The triangular layout is well-balanced, and you made great color choices for the pine branches, the sentiment, and the card base.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the pictures of the happy crafty twin sisters!
Thanks for playing along with us at CAS Christmas, my friend! Hugs.. Hideko
Thank you so much Hideko for your sweet comment. Margie and I do have fun playing together:-) I had so much fun with the challenge and so happy to add to my stash. Hugs...
ReplyDeleteWow, look at all those cool ornaments! Bet you had fun! Judging by your big smiles I'd guess you and Margie were both having fun. Two peas in a pod. The gold embossing looks really nice on your card with the pine bough and ornament. Heck, I'd probably hang these on the tree!
ReplyDeleteWe had an interesting visit today. So fun being greeted by Wally and Lulu and having them show me their special toys:-) Hope you get to go camping soon.
DeleteThe ornaments would be fun on a little tree or plant....great idea! Hugs...
Love these faux enamel ornaments, Nancy! The pine bough stamp is perfect for them :)
ReplyDeleteWow, your ornaments look stunning and so unique! I love the shine and texture!
