Karen's Technique Lovers Challenge: Splash Technique!

Our very talented dear friend Karen (Snippets) is hosting this weeks Splitcoaststampers TLC662 (Technique Lovers Challenge #662).  Karen has chosen "Splash Watercolour Technique" using another awesome and talented friend, Loll's (Stamping with Loll) You Tube "Splash Watercolour Background Technique" video.

Go to Loll's video and in a couple minutes you will be "Splashing" and having so much fun!

Here is my Splashing with Distress Oxide Inks Background Card!

I had a blast with this card.  I added one layer of Splashed Distress Inks at a time.  Drying with my heat tool between layers.  I swiped my Twisted Citron Ink pad onto my craft mat and spritzed with water.  Slapped my Arches Cold Press (I used smoother side) watercolour paper onto the ink in several places then dried.  Then used DOX Peel Paint using same technique and dried.  Then DOX Fossilized Amber, Spiced Marmalade and Candied Apple using same technique. Drying between layers prevent the DOX inks from getting muddy.

Then I placed my card front in my MISTI and placed the 6 lined STAMPlorations The Bee's Knees "Layered Leaves" stamps from my brand new (today) stamp set designed by Shirley Bampton.  I had room for 2 more leaves.  It worked so well using MISTI.  The set also has 6 solid leaves for layering,  but I did not use them this time. Today I also got Shirley's "Layered Snowman" and "Layered Holly" stamp sets.  Lots of fun stamping in my future:-)  Thank you Shirley for inspiring us with your artsy stamp sets..so much creative fun my friend:-)

Next I die cut the stitched Thankful using SU Canvas Board (ret).  and stamped the Bold Sentiments: Hashtag Authentic stamp set.  Die cut my card front with my Crazy Double Running Stitch Rectangle die and attached to card base.   I love how it all turned out and hope you do too.

Now...a real plus to this challenge..Our dear friend Loll is giving us all an opportunity to link our cards to her blog for a 1 week  Mini Challenge using the Splash Technique with the chance to win a prize:-)  How fun is that?!?  Thank you Karen, Loll and Shirley for making my day so much FUN!

I am adding to more challenges..

Excited that a couple of the sets are heading my way! Thrilled that you shared this gem in the STAMPlorations CAS challenge gallery (Did you mean to add it to the CUTplorations challenge, instead? If so, run it over there; we have some voting to do (hint, hint *grin*)

  5. This is such a fun and beautiful card, Nancy! What a wonderful background the splashes made! I love the layers of beautiful distress (Oxide) inks, and the simple outline leaves are perfect for the background.
Even though the gorgeous background draw your attention, the sentiments do stand out because of your great choice of the font, the colors, and the way you placed the sentiments. Thanks for sharing the tips and the info on the splash technique! Hugs.. Hideko

  16. Ha! I looked at this yesterday, then followed your link to the video. Got all hung up watching videos and forgot to come back. Anyway. I really love how your background turned out. Nice mix of colors. It intrigued me. Love that "Thankful" die, too. I worked on my wedding and shower cards all afternoon yesterday, but at least they're done. Sheesh, now I have a couple baby cards to make, but have some errands to run today, also. I really need to concentrate on Christmas cards!
