Twofer Card Challenge #29: Butterflies

There is still time to play until the 24th.  So many Gorgeous and Creative Twofer
Butterfly cards by Dolly's talented DT and Followers:-)

I was totally inspired by DT Girl,  Marcia's post to stamp and pencil color on Tan paper
and her Split-4 Technique,  which makes 4 card fronts.

Hope you like my cards,  Marcia, Dolly and friends!

I used the same stamped and die cut butterfly from the STAMPlorations "Fluttery"
stamp set for both cards.

I stamped with  Versafine black ink the pot of flowers and butterfly
onto the Tan Mixed Media paper,    Then die cut both with the "Fluttery" die cuts.

Then the fun began using Prismacolor pencils to color the images.
I loved the ease of pencil coloring over the Tan MM paper.

Next I die cut the pot of flowers into my tan card front and inlaid my colored image.
Then die cut the card front with CUTplorations Crazy Double Running Stitch
Rectangle Nesting Dies.

Stamped the sentiment and  shaped the pencil colored butterfly with stylus
and then popped up the butterfly with mini dimensionals and
attached to 100# white cardstock and done.

I loved the rich colors I was able to achieve with the pencils on Tan MM paper!

Here is the Split-4 Stamping Technique Video by Creative Treehouse that
Marcia shared on her blog .  I used the same SU "Forever Fern" stamp set.
Be sure and check out the video.  A fun and easy technique to get 4 card fronts
to finish into cards.

To finish my card front I die cut my border with the
Spellbinder Hemstitch die and stamped the sentiment from the same fern set.

Next stamped,  die cut and Zigs colored the butterfly,  which I shaped with a stylus.

Next I attached card front to a layer of SU Garden Green CS and
attached to SU Whisper White 100# Card base and done!

Sharing a photo of the 4 card fronts I made using the Split 4 technique.
The top 2 card fronts are upside down so you can see how I stamped in a circle
the Forever Fern images.

Thank you again Marcia for inspiring me to try the techniques I used for my Twofer cards!
Thank you Dolly for the pencil coloring technique and your awesome Twofer Butterflies
Challenge.  Thank you for reading my long post!
Hope some of you are inspired to try these techniques.
Stay Safe and Creative,  my friends.  Love and Hugs...

  6. Your butterfly cards are gorgeous, Nancy! I love the pencil on tan MM and how your cut around the pot to match the butterfly die cut. I LOVED seeing your four cards together and how you used each one. I can't wait to try that - I need to make some sympathy cards and that will be perfect! 7. What a lovely twofer, Nancy ... the pencil colouring on the neutral MM paper pops so beautifully ... such a pretty butterfly fluttering round the pot! You did the Split 4 technique brilliantly ... the corner foliage is such a sweet spot for your butterfly to alight ... and I love the detail of the hemstitch framing! Split 4 is on my list of things to do too ... looking forward! Thanks so much for playing along with us at Twofer! Hugs, Anita :)

  8. I didn't know you could watercolor with Prismacolor pencils. You did great with your butterfly twofers, Nancy! I've been loving all the split four cards I've been seeing lately and definitely need to see what I have that would work for this. LOVE your color choices for the leaves!

    1. You are right, Leslie...can not watercolor with prismacolor pencils. I deleted that part of my description. I used the watercoloring pencils technique on a recent card image and was thinking I had done the same on the my flower pot and butterfly image. I used a circular motion to color and the pencils just glided over the Tan Mixed Media paper:-) Thanks for correcting me, my friend. Hugs...Nancy

  9. Great coloring examples, Nancy! Well done with the pencil coloring on the pretty butterfly and pot of posies on your tan MM paper! (I'll have to check out that paper!) The wonky stitching is a great choice for the border. And, wow, your Split-4 cards are just gorgeous! I love the addition of the butterfly to your Twofer!

When I played with this technique, I didn't stamp as many of the fern fronds on mine and I like yours better. I appreciate that you showed the full overhead shot of your pretty cards so I can see how fully you stamped yours! Not that I would copy you exactly ... wait, no, in this case, I WOULD copy you exactly because why change perfection?! Thank you so much for playing in Twofer Card Challenge #29! Keep well! Hugs, Darnell

  14. This is so brilliant Nancy! The 'four cards for one' Split 4 technique AND the pencil colouring on darker card stock are very inspiring and I love your results. The colours you used on your split 4 cards are just gorgeous and I love the way you inlaid the flower in the pot and added the die cut butterfly over the top. Vicky x

  16. Your butterfly twofers are fabulous, Nancy! Both butterflies are colored so beautifully and I love them! The way you colored the flower pot makes it look so realistic (terra cotta texture).
And I LOVE your Split-4 card with a butterfly! The color combo is so summery and soothing, and the layout of your ferns is just wonderful. The matching color butterfly is just in the right spot, and the hemstitched die frames this wonderful nature scene perfectly. Both cards are so inspiring, my friend! Hugs.. Hideko
