Loll's 12 Tags of Christmas 2016 Day 11

My tag for Loll's 12 Tags of Christmas Day 11.   This I think is my favorite..maybe because it took the longest and was so much fun!

This is a close up showing the Heat Embossed background and the Heat Embossed die cut trees.  The shine is incredibly beautiful :-)

My first step...I created my die cut trees by using a piece of Arches Hot Press paper that I had watercolored with Brushos and Color Burst powders.  I had spritzed water on the paper and sprinkled on the powders tipping the paper to move the watercolors.  When dry I stamped a tree image from a retired SU set several times using my MISTI.  I then die cut with my new Tim Holtz "Treeline" Die.

I then started my tag by using a #8 Tim Holtz manila tag and covered with 3 layers of Gesso to get a nice textured white background.  That is when all my drying time really started!  Next I splattered with liquid masking fluid that took forever to dry.   The next day I brayered 3 Distress Inks going light to dark and sponged the edges with the darkest DI.   I rubbed off the masking fluid to uncover the snow splatters.

I was really happy with my tag background and die cut trees,  but thought they needed more....so that is when I covered each piece with SU Illuminate Pigment Ink (ret) for more shimmer and Heat Embossed with SU Clear EB powder.  I did the same for the stamped sentiments.  I attached the trees with my thin tip glue pen and sentiments with dimensions. and added black CS and ribbons for the finishing touches.

I LOVED the results and hope you do too.  You know how it is...so much prettier IRL....

I hope you get to play in Loll's amazing 12 Tags of Christmas Event this year.  So many gorgeous tags by Loll and her GD friends and the incredible Gallery :-)  You will be Inspired! Hugs..

  1. Hi Nancy,
I love the look of your trees. Beautiful sky with masked areas give the impression as if it was snowing. Wonderful tag, also my favorite :-)

  2. LOVE the iridescent sheen to your beautiful brushos die-cut trees Nancy. The colours are really gorgeous. And great layering for your background to create such a beautiful sky with falling snow. Have not used the masking fluid technique yet, but have it sitting on my shelf for about a year - it's embarrassing! :) Need to get on that! Gesso is another product that I'm excited to experiment with. You have done such an amazing job with this tag. And your patience has paid off. Thanks so much for sharing this at my tag event. xx

  3. I can see lots of sparkle in the photo, so I can imagine it must be even more vibrant in person. I like your bright blue sky background. It reminds me of some of those crisp, clear snowy days that we have when you wonder how snow can be falling when you don't have a cloudy sky. But it happens! I like to work with masking, too, but sure wish it would dry faster. Such a pretty tag!

  7. Nancy, you really outdid yourself on this one and what a gorgeous color! And I spy yet another tree die I must have! Love all the steps you took to create this. I seem to be one of the few who has no success with masking fluid. You did an exceptional job with it!
